Biography

Partho Sarathy (also written Partho Sarothy) is a Hindustani sarod player, born into a Bengali family in Kolkata in 1960. He began his musical training at the age of eight under his father, the late Sudhamoy Chowdhury, himself a disciple of the sarod player Pandit Radhika Mohan Moitra. He then studied for nearly a decade with Ustad Dhyanesh Khan, son and disciple of Ustad Ali Akbar Khan. In 1980 he was accepted as a disciple by Pandit Ravi Shankar, who gave him continuous training and guidance thereafter. He teaches, and his students include the Sarod Sisters. Note: sources use both "Sarathy" and "Sarothy" for his surname.
