Jaipur-Atrauli
Shounak Abhisheki is a Hindustani classical vocalist and composer, the son and disciple of the late Pt. Jitendra Abhisheki. The family traces its roots to Mangeshi in Goa. He took his early training from Smt. Kamal (Kamaltai) Tambe of the Jaipur gharana, and his khayal singing is usually described as a blend of the Agra and Jaipur styles.
Beyond khayal he works across semi-classical and devotional forms, and is known for thematic concerts built on his father's compositions: Swarabhishek, Tulsi Ke Ram, Kabir and Abhang. He has performed at leading Indian festivals and has toured the United States, the United Kingdom, the former Soviet Union, the Persian Gulf and Thailand. His recordings have been released by Sony Music, Music Today, Times Music, Ninad Music, Music Curry and Fountain Music.
His awards include the Pune Ki Asha Puraskar, the Balgandharva Puraskar, the Zee Gaurav Puraskar, the NCPA Excellence Award, the Pt. Dinanath Mangeshkar Puraskar from the Marathi Natyaparishad, the Saraswatibai Rane Puraskar and the Symbiosis University Cultural Award.
