Manik Khan

Manik Khan is a sarod artist, composer, and teacher of the Maihar gharana, the youngest son of legendary sarod maestro Ustad Ali Akbar Khan. He first studied tabla under Pandit Swapan Chaudhuri before beginning formal sarod training with his father at age 13, and spent his formative years accompanying his father and elder brother Alam Khan on stage during the final decade of Ali Akbar Khan's performing career. His solo career has taken him across India, South America, and the United States, performing with tabla masters including Pandit Swapan Chaudhuri, Pandit Tanmoy Bose, Pandit Yogesh Samsi, and Pandit Bickram Ghosh. In 2025 he became the first sarod player to perform at Red Rocks Amphitheatre, as a featured artist on Trevor Hall's Monsoon Nights tour. With guitarist Imam Hamdani he released the collaborative album Solitude, blending West African and Indian classical influences. He teaches at the Ali Akbar College of Music in San Rafael, California.
