Kaushiki Chakraborty

Kaushiki Chakraborty is a celebrated Hindustani vocalist of the Patiala gharana, renowned for Khyal, Thumri, and Dadra. A Ganda Bandh disciple of Pandit Jnan Prakash Ghosh, she also trained under her father, the legendary vocalist Pandit Ajoy Chakraborty. She won the BBC Radio 3 World Music Award in 2005.

Kedar Naphade on harmonium and Sohail Yusuf Khan on sarangi join Ojas Adhiya for this date, with Chakraborty singing khyal and semi-classical pieces introduced by English narration for listeners new to the tradition. Unlike the evening shows elsewhere on the tour, the Foothill College date is a 3pm matinee - the closing stop of Para Share Entertainments' eight-city September run.
