Vidhya Subramanian

Vidhya Subramanian is a Bharatanatyam dancer, choreographer and teacher recognised for her command of the Vazhuvoor style. Born in Chennai, she began training at eight under S.K. Rajarathnam and later studied abhinaya with Padma Bhushan Kalanidhi Narayanan, giving her arangetram in 1984 at sixteen. After moving to the United States in 1990 she founded the Lasya Dance Company in California. She has since returned to Chennai, where she founded the Sparsha Arts Foundation in memory of her father, Sri K.S. Subramanian, to connect performers with their audiences. Her awards include the Nrithya Choodamani from Krishna Gana Sabha, Nadanamamani from Karthik Fine Arts, and Yuva Kala Bharati from Bharat Kalachar.
