Indradeep Ghosh

Indradeep Ghosh is one of the premier violinists of India and a trailblazer for the Maihar Gharana of Hindustani classical music. Born into a music-loving family in Kolkata, he was encouraged by his parents Tapati and S.N. Ghosh to take up a bow instrument, while his brothers play the sitar and tabla. His training began at age six under the guidance of Sri Anamitra Mustafi, and since 1991 he has studied under Professor Smt. Sisirkana Dhar Chowdhury. He also received training from Pandit V.G. Jog and Pandit Kumar Bose. Indradeep is one of the few Indian classical violinists to play a custom-made five-string violin with eight sympathetic strings, modeled after the Norwegian Hardanger fiddle, allowing for a fuller, resonant sound. He performs regularly at major music festivals in India and internationally, and has collaborated with artists including Hidayat Khan on the album Soulful Duets: Bliss.
