Falguni Shah

Falguni Shah, known professionally as Falu, is a Grammy Award-winning Indian-American vocalist, composer, and educator. Growing up in a musical family in Mumbai, she trained in Hindustani classical music of the Jaipur gharana tradition under Kaumudi Munshi, semi-classical thumri in the Benaras style from Uday Mazumdar, and later studied under sarangi/vocal master Ustad Sultan Khan and the legendary Kishori Amonkar. After migrating to the United States in 2000, she became lead vocalist for the Indo-American band Karyshma and began touring with Asian Massive leader Karsh Kale. In 2004, she performed as a solo artist with Yo-Yo Ma's Silk Road Project and was appointed as one of Carnegie Hall's Musical Ambassadors in 2005. In 2022, she won the Grammy Award for Best Children's Album for A Colorful World, and received additional Grammy nominations for Falu's Bazaar (2019) and Abundance in Millets (2023, Best Global Music Performance). She has collaborated with Yo-Yo Ma, Wyclef Jean, Philip Glass, Ricky Martin, A.R. Rahman, and Blues Traveler, and performed at the White House for President Obama.
