Biography

Ayaan Ali Bangash was born on 5 September 1979 in New Delhi, India, into one of India's most illustrious musical families. He is the younger son of sarod maestro Ustad Amjad Ali Khan and classical dancer Subhalakshmi Barua Khan, and the younger brother of sarod player Amaan Ali Bangash. He received his musical training exclusively from his father and made his solo concert debut at age eight. He made his UK debut in 1989 and his US debut in 1991 at the Asia Society in New York.

Ayaan's international career accelerated rapidly. He performed at Carnegie Hall in 1997, and that same year played for HRH Prince Charles at St. James's Palace. The 2004 family album Moksha was nominated for the Grammy Award for Best Traditional World Music Album. In 2014, he performed alongside his father and brother at the Nobel Peace Prize Ceremony in Oslo. He made his BBC Proms debut at the Royal Albert Hall in August 2022 and serves as an Associate Artist at Wigmore Hall.

Ayaan has collaborated with diverse artists across genres, including cellist Matthew Barley, guitarist Derek Trucks, percussionist Dame Evelyn Glennie, and pipa soloist Wu Man. He co-founded Sarod Records with his brother Amaan in 2014. His work on Peace Worshipers (2017) won a Gold Medal at the Global Music Awards. He also co-hosted the music talent show Sa Re Ga Ma Pa on Zee TV with his brother for three seasons.
