Arun Ramamurthy is a violinist, composer and educator based in Brooklyn, NY. Rooted in South Indian classical Carnatic music, he is a versatile musician performing internationally in both traditional Carnatic and Hindustani settings, as well as blurring genres with his own innovative projects. He studied under the celebrated violinist brothers Sri Mysore Nagaraj and Dr. Mysore Manjunath, as well as the distinguished violinist Sri Ananthakrishnan, with early training in Western classical violin under Jim Mate. He leads the Arun Ramamurthy Trio, which brings a fresh approach to Carnatic classical repertoire alongside original compositions, and co-leads a violin duo with his wife, violinist Trina Basu, whose debut album Nakshatra was released in January 2022. Arun's music has brought him to stages including Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, the Kennedy Center, Celebrate Brooklyn, and Pioneer Works. He is a co-founder of Brooklyn Raga Massive, a genre-bending South Asian classical musicians' nonprofit, and in 2010 created the Carnatic Sundays concert series at Cornelia Street Cafe in the West Village.
