Biography

Apratim Majumdar (born 1978) is an Indian classical sarod player from Kolkata. He began his musical training at age five under his mother in vocal music, then took up the sarod at nine. He was tutored by Rabin Ghosh, a disciple of Ustad Alauddin Khan, for over nineteen years, and also trained with Partho Sarothy (a disciple of Dhyanesh Khan and Ravi Shankar) and later Pradip Kumar Chakraborty. His style follows the Dhrupadiya Beenkar approach of the Senia Maihar gharana. He holds the titles Sangeet Bhaskar (Pracheen Kalakendra, Chandigarh) and Sur Mani (Sur Singar Akademi, Mumbai), and is an empanelled artist of the EZCC and ICCR.
