T.M. Krishna in Concert

T.M. Krishna is a master of Carnatic vocal music, and is also known as one of its most vocal critics, challenging its traditional caste hierarchies, devotional orthodoxies, and nationalist overtones by altering this music from within. The concert is part of the 50th anniversary Navaratri Festival at Wesleyan, and marks Krishna's first return to campus in 15 years.

T.M. Krishna is a master of Carnatic vocal music, and is also known as one of its most vocal critics, challenging its traditional caste hierarchies, devotional orthodoxies, and nationalist overtones by altering this music from within. A musician as well as activist, Krishna explores tradition as a living, evolving practice and a framework for belonging and social engagement. His music makes subtle and profound shifts that alter meaning in order to confront systemic inequality, ecological crisis, and nationalist ideology. This event is part of the 50th anniversary Navaratri Festival at Wesleyan. Krishna returns to Wesleyan for the first time in 15 years (he previously performed as part of the Navaratri Festival in 2011).
