
Vittal Ramamurthy is an acclaimed Carnatic violinist and senior disciple of Padma Bhushan Lalgudi G. Jayaraman, recognized as the leading torchbearer of the Lalgudi bani. He began learning Carnatic music from his mother Krishnaveni and was introduced to violin by his grandfather, Sangeethabhushanam B.V. Subba Rao. His training continued under Hosahalli Venkataram and T. Rukmini before he advanced under Lalgudi Jayaraman in Madras, where he absorbed the distinctive Lalgudi style emphasizing melodic richness and subtle accompaniment. Ramamurthy has been honored with titles including Best Violinist from the Music Academy and Sri Krishna Gana Sabha of Chennai, along with Yuva Kala Bharathi, Kalaimani, and Swara Gyana Bharathi. Since 2000, he has led the annual Karunbithil Shibira, a residential music camp at his ancestral home in Nidle village, Karnataka, attracting up to 300 participants from across India and abroad for immersive training in Carnatic violin, vocals, and percussion. He has students in India, USA, Canada, Australia, and France.
