Biography

VVS Murari (Vadakkencheri Sri Krishna Murari) is an Indian classical violinist, violist, and composer descended from the musical lineages of Swathi Thirunal and Muthuswami Dikshitar. He is a fourth-generation musician, trained under the tutelage of his father and guru, the legendary violinist 'Nadayogi' V V Subrahmanyam, and later mentored by the doyen of Carnatic music, 'Padma Vibhushan' Semmangudi Srinivasa Iyer. Murari made his solo debut at the age of 10 on December 15, 1986 at The Music Academy, Madras. Over nearly four decades of professional performances, he has founded the VVS Foundation and SaMaa Arts, and introduced the Carnatic Philharmonic Orchestra in 2015, which blended Indian and Western classical traditions, as well as incorporating a cappella singing into Carnatic music through his 2017 production Panchamukhi.
