Vinayak Ramchandra Athavale

Vinayak Ramchandra Athavale (1918 - 2011), also known as V. R. Athavale, was a Hindustani classical vocalist and a prominent musicologist of the 20th century. He was a disciple of Vinayakrao Patwardhan and Vilayat Hussain Khan, representing the Gwalior and Agra gharanas. He composed under the pen name "Naad Piya" and is known for his critiques of traditional ideas and modern aesthetics in Hindustani classical music.
