Tiruvidamarudur Ramaswamy Mahalingam, affectionately known as Mali, was a flautist who revolutionised the style of flute-playing in Carnatic music. He introduced a new fingering technique and a redesigned flute, which allowed for greater control and the ability to produce gamakas, better imitating the human voice. His eccentric and genius nature made him a legendary and enigmatic figure in the world of Carnatic music.
