Biography

Steve Gorn is an acclaimed bansuri player based in New York who has dedicated decades to mastering North Indian classical music. He represents the Pannalal Ghosh gharana, having been introduced to the vocal gayaki style of bansuri pioneered by the legendary Padmabhusan Pannalal Ghosh through his primary teacher, the late Sri Gour Goswami of Kolkata.

His training spans multiple lineages: beyond Sri Gour Goswami, he studied with Pandit Raghunath Seth of Mumbai (with whom he continues formal study since 1996) and the late Ustad Z.M. Dagar. This diverse training has shaped his distinctive approach, which emphasizes "an attention to meer and gamak and an old world rendering of raga which unfolds timelessly and with attention to the rasa, or color of each note and melodic contour."

Gorn has performed extensively in India at prestigious venues including Bharat Bhavan (Bhopal), Triveni Hall (New Delhi), The Sangeet Research Academy (Kolkata), NCPA, and the Nehru Center (Mumbai). In New York, he regularly performs with Pandit Samir Chatterjee and the Darbari Ensemble alongside sitarist Allyn Miner and sarangi master Ramesh Misra. His concerts, often titled "Luminous Ragas," include guided listening meditations to reveal the music's inner architecture.
