Biography

Sooryagayathri is a Carnatic vocalist and devotional music artist from Kerala, India, born on January 26, 2006, in the village of Purameri near Vadakara. Her father, P. V. Anilkumar, a mridangam artist, became her first guru. She began formal training in Carnatic vocals at age four under guru Nishant Nadapuram and later continued her studies with S. Anandi in Kozhikode. She also learned veena from Ramana Balachandran and practices mridangam with her father.

At age nine, Carnatic singer and composer Kuldeep M. Pai used her voice for a rendition of the Hanuman Chalisa. The video went viral and marked the beginning of her rise to international fame. Her devotional renditions, often compared to the legendary M.S. Subbulakshmi, have earned her a devoted following worldwide.

Sooryagayathri has been honored with numerous awards including the M.S. Subbulakshmi Fellowship in Music by Shanmukhananda Sabha Mumbai, the Kalanidhi Sangeeth Rathna Award, and the Samaj Sakthi Award.
