Roopak Kallurkar

Roopak Kallurkar is a prominent Hindustani tabla player from Bangalore, born into a distinguished musical family. He began his musical training at the age of five under his father and guru, Dr. Pandit Rajgopal Kallurkar, a renowned tabla maestro of the Farrukhabad gharana. His mother, Smt. Vijayalaxmi Kallurkar, is a celebrated Hindustani classical vocalist, giving Roopak an immersive musical upbringing from an early age.

Roopak represents the Farrukhabad gharana, known for its clarity of sound, intricate compositions, and sophisticated rhythmic patterns. He holds the Alankaar (Visharad) degree from Akhil Bharatiya Gandharva Mahavidyalaya Mandal and has received the prestigious CCRT (Centre for Cultural Resources and Training) scholarship from the Government of India. He is a 'B High' graded artist with All India Radio. He has also trained under renowned Carnatic percussionist Vid. Kulloor Jayachandra Rao, mastering intricate Carnatic rhythm patterns to broaden his versatility.

A versatile performer, Roopak has captivated audiences with powerful solo tabla performances at prestigious festivals across India. He has accompanied many of the leading Hindustani musicians and collaborated with renowned Carnatic musicians as well. His repertoire spans a wide range of genres including Thumri, Ghazal, Sufi, Harikatha, Bhavageetha, Bhajans, Abhang, Kathak dance, and light music. He has ventured into fusion music, collaborating with international ensembles including the Brazilian Fusion Choir and the Band of Netherlands, and has appeared on television channels including DD Chandana and Sankara TV.

Roopak is also a dedicated teacher and teaches students internationally through the Kallur Mahalaxmi Tabla Vidyalaya, the institution founded by his father Pt. Rajgopal Kallurkar. He is currently active in performing across the United States as part of his North American concert tours.
