Roopa Panesar

Roopa Panesar is one of the UK's finest sitarists, born in Leicester and immersed in the Etawah gharana tradition. She began formal training at age seven under Ustad Dharambir Singh MBE, himself a disciple of the late Ustad Vilayat Khan. She has also received guidance from Pandit Arvind Parikh, Ustad Shahid Parvez, Pandit Buddhaditya Mukherjee, and Ustad Bahauddin Dagar. A qualified chemical engineer, Panesar chose music as her full-time career and has toured extensively across the UK, Europe, India, and the USA. Her discography includes Khoj (2011), Subha (2022), and Atma (2023), premiered at London's Barbican Centre.
