Biography

Rimpa Siva (born 1986) is a Hindustani tabla player of the Farrukhabad gharana. She began learning at the age of three from her father and guru, Prof. Swapan Siva, himself a disciple of the late Ustad Keramatullah Khan, and gave her first stage performance in Kolkata at eight. A 1999 French television documentary titled "Rimpa Siva: Princess of Tabla" gave her the name by which she is still widely known. She has since performed more than five hundred concerts internationally, appeared on some fifty recordings, and toured the United States accompanying Pandit Hariprasad Chaurasia. She holds an M.A. from Rabindra Bharati University and has received the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award and the Indian Music Academy President Award.
