Biography

Smt. Lalita Sharma is a highly acclaimed vocalist of the Mewati Gharana and a senior disciple of Sangeet Marthand Padma Vibhushan Pandit Jasraj. Gifted with a rich, mellifluous voice, she has excellent command over musical diction and deft management of rhythm. She received her advanced training in Carnatic vocal from Sri V R Krishnan of Chennai and in Hindustani vocal from Pandit Jasraj. She expertly straddles both forms of Indian classical music — Carnatic and Hindustani. She was the founder of Pandit Jasraj Schools in Florida, Atlanta and Los Angeles, and founded Swaraangan, a non-profit school for Hindustani classical music in Chennai aimed at promoting Hindustani music and other art forms, with an outreach program to bring music to underprivileged children. She has performed extensively at concerts in Europe, Australia, UK and the US.
