Biography

Kumaresh Rajagopalan (born 1967, Kanpur) is a celebrated Carnatic violinist, best known as one half of the Ganesh-Kumaresh duo alongside his elder brother Ganesh Rajagopalan. The brothers began their musical training under their father T.S. Rajagopalan, originally from Thrippunithura, Kerala, who was passionate about South Indian classical music and taught violin to children in Kanpur. Kumaresh started playing at age 2, and the duo gave their first stage performance in 1972, at ages 7 and 5 respectively, quickly gaining recognition as child prodigies with over 100 performances before Kumaresh turned ten.

Ganesh and Kumaresh are recognized as modern contemporary artists in "Sastriya Sangitam" and were honoured with the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award in 2018 for Carnatic Instrumental Music (Violin). Beyond performance, they compose music for films including Dance Like a Man and Chandrikai, as well as dance productions. Kumaresh is married to Jayanthi Kumaresh, a renowned veena player.
