Biography

Kinga Malec is a Polish-born Kathak dancer, choreographer, and teacher based in Liverpool, UK. Born in Warsaw in 1988, she trained in figure skating and classical ballet as a child, and for 12 years performed with the Polish folk ensemble Varsovia. She began studying Indian dance in 2006 after being inspired by a Bollywood performance in Warsaw, and has since trained under eminent gurus in India including Pandit Arjun Mishra of Lucknow, Pandit Birju Maharaj, Mamta Maharaj, and Saswati Sen in New Delhi, and Nirupama Rajendra in Bangalore, under whom she graduated in 2019 after a two-hour classical Kathak solo recital. She holds a BA in Choreography and Dance Techniques from the Music Academy in Lodz and an MA in Choreography and Dance Theory from the F. Chopin University of Music in Warsaw, and serves as artistic director of the Indo-Polish Cultural Committee (IPCC).
