Biography

Kanjonavo Sabud is a young Indian classical sitarist based in the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area. He began learning sitar at age eleven in the summer of 2018 under Shri Dipanjan Guha of the Senia Maihar gharana (based in Kolkata), a longtime senior disciple of Pandit Kushal Das. Most of his instruction has occurred via virtual lessons, supplemented by in-person training in India during summer breaks. Kanjonavo presented his debut solo sitar recital in October 2022 under the 'Talents for the Future' Indian Music Festival, won second prize in the intermediate instrumental category at the 2023 Chhandayan International Music Competition, and was awarded the Ali Akbar Khan College of Music (AACM) Full Scholarship in 2023. He has also begun vocal training under his grandfather, Shri Ajit Kumar Rakshit. He graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology and is currently an undergraduate student at the University of Maryland.
