Biography

Gayathri Venkataraghavan is a distinguished Carnatic vocalist who has carved a niche for herself in the world of classical music. She received her initial training from Smt. Rajalakshmi, Padma Veeraraghavan, Rukmini Ramani, V. Subramaniam, and Lakshmi Natarajan. Her advanced tutelage was under the guidance of Vidwan A. Sundareshan, and later she became a disciple of the illustrious Padma Bhushan awardee, Sri P.S. Narayanaswamy, who belongs to the esteemed Semmangudi Srinivasa Iyer school of music. This lineage has profoundly shaped her musical style, which is characterized by its adherence to tradition and melodic richness.

Throughout her career, Gayathri Venkataraghavan has graced numerous prestigious stages and festivals across the globe, including the AdLucem festival in Latvia, the Sydney Music Festival, and various events in the USA, Canada, the UK, and the Middle East. She has collaborated with legendary artists such as Dr. M. Balamuralikrishna and Smt. Lakshmi Shankar, as well as with Hindustani and Western musicians, showcasing her versatility. Her discography includes several commercial albums released by Charsur Digital Workstation and other labels, many of which have been bestsellers.

Gayathri is a recipient of numerous accolades, including the 'Isai Peroli' from Kartik Fine Arts (2008), 'Shanmukha Sangeeta Shironmani' from Shanmukhananda Sabha, Mumbai (2009), and a Lifetime Achievement Award from Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan (2016). She is also a dedicated educator, actively teaching and conducting workshops to share her knowledge with the next generation of musicians.
