Sarabha Sastrigal
Delhi P. Sunderrajan, born Parasuraman Sunder Rajan, comes from a family of musicians in Kumbakonam, Thanjavoor District, and traces his lineage to the esteemed Flute Maestro Brahmasri Sarabha Sastrigal. His musical journey began under the tutelage of Sangeetha Bhushanam Shri V. Janakiraman. Starting his violin training at the young age of six, Sunderrajan gave his first public performance at eight, quickly gaining recognition as a child prodigy for his exceptional talent and creative expression.
Throughout his career, Sunderrajan has established himself as a sought-after violinist, both as a soloist and an accompanist to distinguished Carnatic musicians. He has performed extensively across India and abroad, captivating audiences with his improvisational style. A graded artist of All India Radio since the age of thirteen, he has been featured in prestigious broadcasts, including the Radio Sangeet Sammelan and the National Programme of Music and Dance. His performances have also been released on various albums by leading recording companies such as HMV, Music Today, and Magnasound.
Sunderrajan's contributions to Carnatic music have been widely recognized with numerous accolades. Notably, he received the Madras Music Academy's award for the best accompanying violinist for three consecutive years. He is also a respected guru, training a new generation of violinists, many of whom are now performers in their own right. Currently, he is pursuing a Ph.D. in the art of the violin from Annamalai University, furthering his deep engagement with the instrument.
