Debopriya Chatterjee

Debopriya Chatterjee is a distinguished Hindustani flute artist, acclaimed as one half of the celebrated 'Flute Sisters' duo alongside her sister Suchismita Chatterjee. Born on July 8, 1977, in Allahabad into a family steeped in music — their parents Robin and Krishna Chatterjee were classical Hindustani vocalists — the sisters were drawn to the bamboo flute from an early age. Debopriya received her initial training under the guidance of Pandit Bholanath Prasanna, before progressing to study under the legendary flautist Padma Vibhushan Pandit Hariprasad Chaurasia, under whose tutelage she continues to refine her art. The sisters studied world music at the Rotterdam Conservatory, earning certifications with distinction, and completed a Sangeet Prabhakar from Prayag Sangeet Samiti in Allahabad in 2001. Debopriya was honored with the prestigious Sangeet Natak Akademi Ustad Bismillah Khan Yuva Puraskar in 2008 for Hindustani Instrumental music. Based in Mumbai, she continues to perform extensively across India and internationally, often accompanying her guru Pandit Hariprasad Chaurasia on stage.
