Biography

Bharathi Prathap is a Hindustani khayal vocalist of the Agra gharana, based in Bangalore, and a graded artist of All India Radio and Doordarshan. She trained initially in Carnatic music before turning to Hindustani classical music, a change she describes as a rebirth and credits to her guru, the Agra gharana doyenne Vidushi Lalith J. Rao, under whom she has studied for around seventeen years. She has also learned from Shri Marutirao Inamdar and Pandit Ramarao V. Naik. She has performed at the Sawai Gandharva Bhimsen Mahotsav in Pune (2015), the Dover Lane Music Conference in Kolkata (2019) and the Darbar Festival at the Barbican in London. Her honours include the Rageshree Puraskar (2020) and the title Ganashree, conferred at the Sri Guru Puttaraja Puraskara in 2017.
