
Ashvin Bhogendra, who also performs as D.B. Ashvin, is a Carnatic vocalist from a family of musicians. His maternal grandfather, Kalaimamani the late Shri T.K. Rangachary, was one of the doyens of Carnatic music, and his paternal great-grandfather, Dharmavaram Ramakrishnamacharlu, was among the foremost playwrights of Telugu drama.
He was initiated into Carnatic vocal music by his mother, Smt. Mallika Jayanth Kumar, at the age of five. He then studied for about fifteen years under the late Shri B. Seetharama Sharma and Kalaimamani the late Shri Vairamangalam Lakshminarayanan, and subsequently underwent advanced training with the late Shri D. Seshachary of the Hyderabad Brothers.
Ashvin has given concert performances at leading sabhas and organizations across India and the United States. He has also appeared in cross-genre settings, including the TONGUES series at ISSUE Project Room in Brooklyn, where he performed in a trio with Carnatic violinist Anjna Swaminathan and mrudangam artist Rajna Swaminathan alongside violist Mat Maneri.
