Etawah
Anupama Bhagwat (born 18 July 1974) is an acclaimed Hindustani sitarist and leading exponent of the Etawah (Imdadkhani) gharana. Introduced to the sitar at age nine by Shri R. N. Verma, she began intensive training at thirteen under Bimalendu Mukherjee, doyen of the Imdadkhani gharana. Her playing is characterized by scintillating fast taans, meditative alaap, and the Gayaki Ang style—bringing a vocal-like emotion to the sitar. She placed first in the All India Radio competition (1994), received a national scholarship from India's Ministry of Human Resource Development, and was conferred the title Surmani by Sur Sringar Sansad, Bombay (1995). She has performed internationally across the USA, Europe, and India since 1995.
