Biography

Aditya Prakash is an award-winning vocalist recognized as one of the foremost young virtuosos of Carnatic music, known for his innovative approach to composition, production, and performance. Born and raised in Los Angeles, he grew up in a household filled with music and dance — his mother Viji Prakash founded the Shakti Dance School of Bharatanatyam, and his sister Mythili Prakash is a noted Bharatanatyam dancer. Aditya began vocal training at age 8 and performed his first solo two-hour debut at 12. He spent summers and winters training in Chennai under venerated gurus P.S. Narayanaswami and Palai C.K. Ramachandran for 15 years. At 16, he became one of the youngest musicians to tour with Pandit Ravi Shankar, performing at Carnegie Hall, Disney Hall, Hollywood Bowl, and Boston and Chicago Symphony Halls. He founded the Aditya Prakash Ensemble, which creates dialogue between Carnatic and jazz traditions. The Ensemble's 2020 album Diaspora Kid was featured in the top 15 on the Transglobal World Music Chart. He has collaborated with Anoushka Shankar, Tigran Hamasyan, Karsh Kale, and Akram Khan.
