Biography

Gururao Deshpande (1889-1982) was a prominent Hindustani classical vocalist from Karnataka, India. He is particularly noted for his innovative Gamaka style of reciting Kannada epics like the Kumaravyasa Bharata and Lakshmish Bharata. A disciple of Dattopant Joshi and T. K. Pitre, he was also a scholar of Kannada and English literature.
