
Gayatri Balasubrahmanyam is a Carnatic vocalist and violinist based in Mumbai, widely known for performing alongside her sister as the Ranjani-Gayatri duo. Born into a Tamil musical family, she showed remarkable early aptitude, reportedly identifying over a hundred ragas by age two and a half. She began violin training at age six under Prof. T.S. Krishnaswami at Shanmukhananda Sangeet Vidyalaya in Mumbai, and received vocal training from her mother Meenakshi Balasubramaniam and later from Sangeeta Kala Acharya P. S. Narayanaswamy. The sisters have built distinguished careers as Carnatic performers, composers, and educators, known especially for their compositions of Abhangs and cross-lingual classical pieces.
