Farrukhabad
Dibyarka Chatterjee is a tabla virtuoso and educator representing the Farrukhabad Gharana, trained from age five by his father Pandit Samir Chatterjee through the guru-shishya parampara. Born in Kolkata, he began performing as a child on Akaashbani Kolkata's national radio before relocating to New York City at age ten.
He holds a Master of Fine Arts from Goddard College, Vermont, focusing on Indian music history, theory, and philosophy. He has performed with masters including Pandit Jasraj, Pandit Buddhadev DasGupta, and Ustad Shujaat Khan at Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, the UN General Assembly, and Asia Society.
A 2017 Salon de Virtuosi Career Grant recipient, Dibyarka lectures at Columbia University, Yale, Dartmouth, NYU, and Manhattan School of Music. He has composed for off-Broadway productions and collaborated with Dance Theatre of Harlem and Battery Dance Company. He is affiliated with Chhandayan Center for Indian Music.
